Barb Elgin is a licensed wellness professional and thought/heart leader with a career spanning over 25 years, including experience as:
- A psychotherapist in private outpatient and psychiatric hospital settings, treating individuals, couples and groups.
- A clinic manager and program director.
- The CEO of her own business since 2001.
- An author, speaker, seminar/retreat leader, matchmaker, dating and relationship coach.
- A community activist, specializing in the following concerns: women’s, gays and lesbians and the shrinking middle class in America

As the founder and owner of her own health and wellness business, Barb spearheaded the growth of relationship health awareness in lesbian communities nationally and internationally. Over the last decade, she’s created and led numerous in person and virtual seminars on lesbian dating, lesbian relationships and other topics of interest to lesbians.

Barb has authored several written and audio programs, including
: ‘The Savvy Lesbian’s Guide to Your Best Year Ever‘ and ‘Relationship MAGIC for Life’ and has produced and run her own podcasts.
She’s interviewed authors, celebrities and activists, including comedians Suzanne Westenhoeffer and Kate Clinton as well as Freedom to Marry founder Evan Wolfson and Janice Langbehn (The Lisa Pond Story), highlighting the plight of gays who go into the hospital and find their relationship rights ignored.
Barb received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, with a specialization in Employee Assistance Programs…
Barb graduated with honors (magna cum laude) and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Towson University. She earned the prestigious honor of being voted ‘Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student’ by Psychology Department Faculty. She’s a licensed clinical social worker and a certified singles coach. Additionally, she’s completed specialized training and certification in relationship coaching from The Relationship Coaching Institute and matchmaking with The Matchmaking Institute.

Barb’s a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), a former board member of the Maryland Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and was invited to be one of the first executive members of the Women’s Business Initiative with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Over the years, Ms. Elgin has hired many GLBT businesses and allies and staff to work with or for her and she has been a vendor at gay pride festivals and gay wedding expos across the country.
Barb has donated hundreds of hours of her time volunteering to support better lives for lesbians…
She’s chaired NASW-Maryland’s GLBT Social Work Committee, answered phones at Baltimore’s gay community center switchboard, served as an outreach coordinator for Free State Justice (now Equality Maryland) to support passage of their state’s gay anti-discrimination law and spoken at national and local gay chamber events, as well as to gay and gay affirmative churches and community centers on a wide range of topics such as saying no to anti-gay legislation pending, lesbian, women’s and minority business issues, self esteem for sexual and gender minorities, mental health issues for gays and lesbian relationship health.
