Are you internet sex addicted?

Hats off again to my colleague Dr. Joe Kort.  Today, I want to share with you more information on the issue of sex addiction and, specifically internet sex addiction.

I just found out Joe now has his own YouTube channel.  Recently, Joe was interviewed by Carolyn on Health’s Edge in an interesting report on the topic of internet sex addiction.  During Dr. Kort’s interview, some of the major points he emphasized were that…

• Sex is not the problem.  It’s the addict’s relationship with sex that is the issue.
• The internet has ‘unleashed’ a monster.  He calls the internet the AAA engine – affordable, accessible and anonymous.  The report also referred to the idea that the internet creates a ‘ false sense of invincibility’.

Including during the interview was the real life story of a man ‘in disguise’ who shared how internet sex addiction almost ruined his marriage.  How did this man come to the realization his sexual behavior was ‘out of control’? He says he realized that, in spite of the array of women available to him on the web, none of them fully satisfied him and that he’d adopted habits such as lying and sneaking.

And, internet sex addiction isn’t just a problem for men: it’s a problem for women too (and becoming more so).  Recent surveys indicate women’s sexual addiction online is up 40%!
